    Abstract

The present work focuses on effect of perforated circular ring insert (PCRI) on thermal performance of a circular tube. Different geometrical and flow parameters used in the present study includes fixed diameter ratio (“d/D” ratio) = 0.7, pitch ratio (“l/D” ratio)= 1,2 & 3, Perforation index (“Pa/Ta” ratio) = 0%, 8%, 16% & 24%, and Reynolds number(Re) between 6,500 to 23,000 respectively. The experimentation is carried out in a test section of 1.4 m length and 68 mm hydraulic diameter. The Nusselt number enhancement of the order of 4 times to plain tube is found for Pitch ratio=1 and Perforation index = 0%, while the thermal performance of order of 1.25 is accorded for Pitch ratio=1 and Perforation index of 24%.
